What is Xenical?
Xenical has been commonly referred to as Orlistat, which is a weight loss supplement that has to be prescribed to you by your doctor. It works in combination with a calorie reduced diet which allows the drug to inhibit the absorption of fat in your body.
The reduced calorie diet is very important to the success of this product to ensure that there are not any more calories being consumed than can be controlled by Xenical.
Who can use Xenical?
Since Xenical is a serious supplement for weight loss, it is really only available to those people with a Body Mass Index (BMI) higher than 30. Even though this supplement is not suitable for people with a BMI less than 30, it offers a safe and effective alternative for those who are overweight but can’t take other supplements due to other health conditions like high blood pressure or diabetes. Your BMI is calculated by dividing your weight in kilograms by your height in meters squared.
How does Xenical work?
Xenical works in the intestines by reducing the amount of fat absorbed by your body after a meal. It inhibits the work of lipase, which is an enzyme needed for fats to be absorbed in the small intestine and stomach. Fats that are not digested can’t be absorbed so they do not add to the calories in a meal. This helps to reduce caloric intake, in turn promoting weight loss.
However, it is good to remember that Xenical only blocks absorption of fat. It won’t help to inhibit absorption of calories from carbohydrates, so if you are already eating low fat meals, you won’t need Xenical.
Are there side effects with Xenical?
Unfortunately, there are some possible unpleasant side effects. Since the fat in the meal isn’t absorbed, it will have to get out of the body somehow. And, that is going to be through the stool. When Xenical is taken with a meal high in fat, some possible side effects are gas, bloating, diarrhea, oily spotting and even anal leakage.
It is possible to reduce these unpleasant side effects by limiting the amount of fat that is consumed in a meal. A good rule of thumb is that no more than 30% of the calories in a meal should come from fat.
It is important to note that The Public Citizen’s Health Research Group (which is a non profit advocacy group), does not like the use of Xenical or Orlistat. They claim that these supplements are scam and can cause gallstones and possibly even some pre-cancerous abnormalities.

It is very important to modify your diet if you decide to start using Xenical by eliminating as many fatty foods as you can. Continuing to eat a diet high in fat while taking Xenical can cause some very unpleasant side effects, especially gastrointestinal effects. It is also believed that Xenical is safe to use after regaining weight that had previously been lost before.

In all honesty, we do believe that there are much better alternatives to this pill on the market. With the many restrictions and possible side effects, we just don’t feel that it is the best product available.
